Our Totally Awesome Weekend Adventure Part 1

October 22nd

The day I had been waiting for for the last two years had arrived. Eileen was going to visit me while I was studying abroad in London! I woke up at 7 am to get ready enough to meet Eileen at King's Cross at 8. I walked down to the station a few minutes later than that and waited for her to arrive. I had already decided that since I hadn't seen her since senior year of high school, and she was only here for the weekend, I was going to take the whole day off (which means that I skipped classes and a play, but she's worth it.) It was particularly cold on this morning and I wasn't wearing a proper coat since I didn't think that I would be waiting for her long: 8:30 passed and then 9 and I began to worry. I thought that perhaps something was wrong with her transport. I headed back to the dorm to get in contact with Eileen and grab a warmer coat.

We discovered that there had been miscommunication. She thought I was to meet her at the airport and I thought I would meet her at Kings Cross. Once that had been sorted out, we met at Kings Cross and joyously embraced one another. So many years, at yet it seemed to us that no time at all had passed between us, a sign of true friendship. We stayed within London looking at things nearby. We walked to the British Library and had a look at their gothic-themed gift shop. We then took the tube to Trafalgar Square and headed to a "nerd store" called Forbidden Planet. It was a paradise for trekkies, whovians, gamers and comic-bookers alike. The store was filled with D&D themed board games, all types of fantasy books, figurines, backpacks and anything else that you could replicate from these kinds of entertainment.

We had done so much walking that by the time we got back, we were so tired we could barely unpack Eileen's things to sleep.

An Excursion Through History

I apologize to all for the gap in my posts of about three weeks. School has started and I've been trying to be focused on getting into these classes. They are amazing classes. I have two classes that are specifically writing classes: Writing and Editing for Fiction and Nonfiction, and Craft of Fiction. These two classes are wonderful in helping me learn to write my stories. The former focuses on word choice and sentence structures, which is really helpful, but the latter class focuses more on plots and character development. I also have a literature class called Literary London. I'm still unsure of how I feel about it, but on the positive side, we are reading obscure writings of the renaissance that I haven't read before. We also were reading Samuel Pepys' diary which is a fascinating read and later I will probably try to read the whole thing. Here's the best link for it if anyone's interested: Samuel Pepys Diary

On this particular Sunday, Allie and I decided to visit Oxford. So we caught the Megabus that we booked earlier in the week and began our two hour drive. I actually got a lot of reading for class done in this time, which is good since I was behind. We didn't really have any ideas about what we were going to do when we got there but we figured we would just explore. We knew we had arrived when we saw this out the window!

What beautiful architecture!
